Product yields£ removal ofsulfur and nitrogen from the coal and the biomassf aund optical textures of the char were studied. The re-sults show that the probability of tar formation can be simulated by normal distribution functionE while thatof tar decomposition by W eibull distribution function. Biomass prevents coal particles from caking togetherduring pyrolysisf 7and therefore particulate char can be obtained. The biomass produces more hydrogenthan the coal during pyrolysis£- and consequently promotes the removal of sulfur and nitrogen from thecoal. The effectiveness of pyrolysis in the removal of sulfur and nitrogen increases with the increase oftemperature£- the decrease of the degree of coal metamorphosis and the size of coal particle.
